Oh God...she can't sing. Let's be honest, there is nothing special about her voice and it sounds heavily of studio refinement.
Worse then Summertime, and I thought Summertime was bad.
I don't like it at all. Like the other poster said it sounds too studio enhanced.
this producer sucks...I've heard her sing elsewhere and despite my worst hopes, was pleasantly surprised. I thought she really could sing. This guy treated her voice like crap, doubled it up and put it in a soup of reverb, makes her sound like a no-talent, but I tell you she has talent...
dang.
I like her slow drawn out version of "Summertime"(DL it) but that first song. YUCK! Thanks for posting and sharing. =D
That's horrible.
I'll concede this album probably won't suck quite as hard as I'd (eagerly?) anticipated, but that track was still pretty, 'meh.'
I'd find this much less irritating if it was her own work she was releasing. But that was poorly mixed, and she didn't add anything particularly interesting to it...
Waits' material deserves better.
I agree with the general consensus. Her sound is of a drunken moan with reverb. And sorry, the producer probably helped as much as one could do with a no talent wanna-be.
And she drowned out Bowie!!
Lame.
What's wrong with reverb?
I would say most people had a hard time getting into Tom Waits voice so I don't see the problem here. Most people are pre-disposed to not like this album so there's that.
I really like "Anywhere I Lay My Head," the song, I haven't heard the rest of the album yet, but I think I'll like the rest...
