Bon Iver is the name of singer-songwriter Justin Vernon's band. Vernon independently released Bon Iver's debut album, For Emma, Forever Ago in 2007, the majority of which was recorded while spending four months in a remote cabin in Wisconsin. (Bon Iver is a bastardization of the French, bon hiver (good winter)... )
It was picked up by the indie-rock label Jagjaguwar on virb, which gave the album a proper release on February 2008.
